Pack Leaders Speak Out

Brain Doyle- President and Lisa Hamburg CPDT-KA -Secretary of The Dog Pack of Pompano Beach Inc.  believe in the mission of the Dog Pack.  They are determined to make Pompano Beach a "dog friendly" city, and improve the quality of life for Pompano Beach's dog owning community. Their mission extends beyond just establishing a city Dog Park.....they want to see more activities in the city for dogs and their owners, more places you can go with your canine companion and more education opportunities for dogs and their owners.  Please check this page often to see what Brian and Lisa are planning for the future!

Lisa Hamburg CPDT-KA: The Alpha Bitch

Since we began the loooong road to having a dog park in this city there have been a lot of changes in my life. I did not think that it would take so long or that I would be so changed by the experience.
It really became a mission for me....there is just no other way to describe it.

I started out on the quest for a city dog park back when my daughter was still a sophomore in high school
(Before there was a Dog Pack) and I went to my first commission meeting, she is ready for her second year of college. Time flies......

My big yellow Lab is now 7 and needs a ramp to get in an out of my truck. My sheltie is 5 and my beagle is 3. I learned a lot about how the City government works, and that part of the experience was an education I never expected.

I got really interested in dog behavior and became a certified professional dog trainer.  That's why there is alphabet soup after my name now.(CPDT-KA). I started my own dog training business Dog Blessed Training, so that I could teach people to train their dogs using dog friendly methods. I'm still a volunteer trainer at Doberman Rescue League (an all breed training program) because I believe in rescue.  And I'm happy to be teaching Puppy Kindergarten and Canine Good Citizen classes on the Amphitheater Stage in Pompano on Tuesday nights, with my good friend Sue Blood (who is teaching Beginner Obedience).
Come out and watch a class....there are plenty of seats!

As a dog trainer with a special interest in preventing and treating dog aggression....I cannot stress the importance of spending an evening in our free DOG PARK ETIQUETTE class.
Brian and I are very entertaining.  You will learn a lot and have a good time doing it.

Along the road to the dog park, I have made a lot of good life long friends (and likely some enemies too).  On the friend side are Mary Ann and Brian Doyle. I really have to publicly thank them for all their hard work, sacrifice and positive energy. Julie Cook who is my dog training, brain storming, dog talking, partner in canine interests and best friend. All of the pack members and friends who have pitched in when called upon, have made me feel close to the dog owner community here in my home town. Thanks to all the "pro Dog Park" city staff, you taught me a lot and I think we learned a lot together. I would also like to thank my husband and daughter who have endured a life for a few years with less of my attention than they deserve.....all the times that the dog park mission required my full attention, they had to take a back seat.

Now we are entering a new phase of life....life in a city with a dog park. Canine Corner...here I come!

It's up to all of us to make it a great dog park.  We still need our group of volunteers...Brian and I have big plans for the future....     See you in the dog park!

Brian Doyle, President: The Big Dog

As President of the Dog Pack of Pompano Beach, Inc., I would like to thank so many people for making the city’s new dog park, Canine Corner, finally a reality!

First, my wife, Mary Ann.  Spending a lot of time making this dog park happen meant spending a lot of time away from home.  Many thanks to her for her support and understanding.

Second, my friend and the Secretary of the Dog Pack, Lisa Hamburg.  Her support and extensive knowledge of dogs and what it takes to make them happy and social animals made taking this task on so much easier.  Lisa is the greatest partner anyone could ask for.  Her willingness to give so much of herself is amazing.  This dog park could not have happened without her.

I would also like to thank those folks out there, too numerous to mention individually, that have supported our efforts in one way or another, whether it’s been helping out on Responsible Dog Owner day, passing out flyers or “spreading the word” about the dog park by placing signs on their lawns and cars in support of the future dog park.  Thanks to all of you for giving up your valuable time to attend numerous Commission meetings and Dog Pack meetings as a show of support and solidarity…without your enthusiasm and support, our first dog park may not have become a reality.

Finally, I would be remiss if I didn’t mention the City Commission itself and the city employees that made this dream a reality.  You should all be proud to say that you all share a part of making history in the City of Pompano Beach by helping to create the very first park in our City dedicated to our four legged friends and their families. Your patience, understanding and willingness to compromise has been inspiring…  The unbelievable amount of planning and effort that went into making Pompano Beach’s Canine Corner a reality will shine through for every resident of our City to see.  Even though it was almost three years in the making, it has been well worth all the time spent, as this dog park will be a “pawprint” in our City’s history!!

With all that being said, let me close by saying….

UNLEASH THE HOUNDS!!!
